The West Stanly High School Spanish Club realized the water crisis faced by our world today (
http://water.org/water-crisis/water-facts/water/) and wanted to do something about it. The initial goal was to cover the cost of one well ($5,000) which will serve 1,000 people over a 20 year period. Broken down, it costs $5 to provide one person with clean water for 20 years. The money was raised at West Stanly High School as well as throughout the community. The students at West Stanly High School alone raised $3,623 in a month and a half. By the end of their fundraiser (about two months), the initial goal was surpassed raising a little over $7,000. This was enough to cover the costs of a 2nd well in India.
All of the raised funds were sent to Water Of Life in Greenville, SC (http://www.givefreshwater.org/). Both wells should be drilled this month.
